Have you ever wondered what to get the plasterer in your life for his birthday? Or Father’s Day or Christmas, come to that. Well, not that I am hinting or anything like that, but here are a few ideas.

Socks. Yes I know men always get socks for a present but there are particular socks a plasterer would appreciate. Instead of those silly slogan efforts get him some serious thermal waterproof ones. Hiking and camping shops specialise in this sort of thing, essential for working outside in a pair of leaky boots.

A good radio would also be appreciated I’m sure. Makita are especially good, sturdy and waterproof for use outdoors, some even having a torch. They are not the cheapest but well worth the extra expense.

When lunchtime rolls around a new lunchbox may be just the thing, especially if working on site away from any local shops. Now the weather finally seems to be improving a cool bag could be a handy present. A thermos flask will always be ideal too.

Finally, what about a good read? I have had a couple of books recommended to me. Firstly, The Modern Plasterer by William Millar is a recognised classic.

Known as the ‘plasterer’s bible’, it is a fascinating guide to traditional plastering techniques. You may find it hard to find but it is well worth the effort.

The second is Plastering Plain and Decorative also by Millar. This is more readily available (on Amazon for instance) and cheaper. It is full of detailed descriptions of tools, materials, processes and techniques.

So no excuses for boring, useless plasterer’s pressies anymore!
